For those of you who are unaware of what a concert rider is, it’s a list of requirements bands or artists give to the concerts halls, hotels and what not that they will be attending for a given concert. This list specifies their needs and wants during their stay/performance.
Today I present to you Iggy Pop’s concert rider – a most hilarious 18-page document that illustrates in a very vivid and pictorial manner Iggy and the Stooges’ necessities for their gigs. Literally starts off like this:
The rider was written by roadie Jos Grain. Every page will guarantee laughs and giggles, so we highly recommend this read. To get you going, here are a couple of extracts that caught my attention:
Some requirements for the mixing consoles
Some requirements for the light designers
Some requierements for the dressing rooms
And the list goes on and on.

By the way, if you want to read bunch of riders from famous people, The Smoking Gun (http://www.thesmokinggun.com), it’s a very addictive website that has compiled hundreds of these.
Most of their content is media related consisting in confidential documents “that can’t be found elsewhere on the Web. Using material obtained from government and law enforcement sources, via Freedom of Information requests, and from court files nationwide, we guarantee everything here is 100% authentic”. And some of their content is music related. You’ll find anything from old commercials to old news reports to hundreds of celebrity mug-shots, but what will mostly likely interest us musicians is the Smoking Gun’s ‘Backstage’ section. Here you will find over 240 contracts of backstage riders of famed bands and artists, most of whom are very interesting reads.
A great website worth checking out. Happy reading!
